My Future Learning Space
Bindlestick Learning

It is the displaced persons journey from their homes to the Muna Garage Camp, fraught with danger, fear of the unknown and only the bare necessities on their back, that inspired me to create my Future Learning Space that I have called Bindlestick Learning.

A Bindlestick is a practical resource that redistributes weight to the shoulder when carrying heavy items. The Bindlestick assists a person to carry a heavy load with less effort . In applying this to my Future Learning Space, Bindlestick Learning aims to be a practical, accessible resource that takes away some of the stress behind children not being able to access schools and allows them to continue to be "educated" whilst in transit or settled in camps.
The Bindlestick Learning programs ease and practicality means that the task of learning can be redistributed to teachers in Child Friendly Spaces, parents or community as the need arises. The program aims to fill the education gap by creating lessons from local objects with the goal of conducting lessons anywhere, anytime beyond the traditional classroom . It is a support tool for informal learning that can be used in conjunction with
Child Friendly Spaces like the ones set up by Teachers Without Borders.

As the Muna Garage Camp has few resources, Bindlestick Learning uses easily accessible objects found around the camp to initiate an interest in education and facilitate a love of learning. All the objects within the program will be linked to a series of activities. These learning activities will encourage children feel safe, valued and assist in building relationships with others. Unsafe and unstable emotional environments can have a negative affect on learning and children need a generous amount of support to get them through the
Liminal Space that they may find themselves in.
The program aims to begin the process of drawing students together to "equip" them with vaulable interactional and transactional skills needed to enhance their relationships with people they meet.Students need to develop a sense of belonging to a larger modern world wherein learning is a key commodity for survival"
