My youngest child just received her Learners permit.
It has been 2 years since I was last a "driving instructor" and it was with intrepidation that I sat in the passenger seat again last weekend. We had both prepared for this day. My daughter with her Vic Roads book of rules and me recalling my step by step procedures and practicing my "calm" voice.
Obviously, it was easier second time around, but I proceeded with just as much caution as the first. Each of my "students" had different personalities and learning capabilities. I approached my teaching technique in the same manner, but changed it to suit the learner . Much in the way that we ,as teachers, must approach the learning differences in our students.
Upon safely returning home, we took turns on reflecting on the experience and I gave feedback and recommendations for next time.
